Anonymity on the Forum

Postby John Dean » Fri Oct 31, 2008 12:40 pm

Dear Forum members,

The forum, by and large, works superbly, is a great resource and needs little maintenance. However, there have been a couple of occasions when we’ve had to remove posts. Indeed, there was a period when HQ staff were forced to monitor the forum on a continuous basis. Not a good use of central resources.

The Forum is an LAA forum. It resides under the LAA website and is moderated by the LAA. The LAA is therefore responsible for the content of the postings.

It is now a requirement to reveal your actual name to the other forum members (and the press who use the aviation forums as source material during a crisis, when official sources are restricted from making comment).

Therefore, please change your profile, so your real name is displayed. Either change your user name, or add your real name to your signature. If you have a special reason to retain your anonymity, please contact the office.

I’m hoping you will all help in this matter, without a heavy hand from HQ. We don’t want to be censoring, or deleting postings, but we do want folks to consider carefully what they publish, ensuring it is fair, honest, in (reasonably) good taste and non libellous.
